SHAMAN CLOUD is a 7th generation natural born Native American
Medicine Man. He did not “learn” to be a shaman. His grandfather spent 86 years working through that box of inherited
knowledge and practice, and now Contemporary shamans must function within their own social and cultural traditions. Anything
less would dishonor the men and women who came before them, upon whose shoulders they stand today. We honor the past, but
we do not worship it. Just as the old shamans were charged with adding to the knowledge of man, the new shamans are
so equally charged. Shaman Cloud has spent nearly a half-century doing the same, building upon the past. He works through
the healing powers of those who have come both before and after him within the spirit world. His practices are who he
is and what he does. He has suffered under the judgment of many who could not go outside of their own perspective to
understand what he does.
In his own words, “I was born in a time when being Native
was shameful, but I was also taught that being proud of yourself and your heritage was more important than shame. I
am proud of where I come from. I learned my art from my grandfather just as he learned from his. I
am honored to share it with you." © 2009, 2010
In 2009, Cloud has
written a well-received book on the role and practice of Shamanism, In a Shaman’s Footsteps. Shaman
Cloud is the Honorary Trustee of The Yantaho Foundation, a nonprofit organization where we connect together as a
positive force for peace in our communities right here at home in America that results in healing our mind, body and spirit
based on Ancient Traditions and Shamanic Teachings in the Native American Way of Life.
